Wine or Beer?

Posted: March 11th, 2007 | Author: Kari | Filed under: personal |

I feel a little frivolous right now so I thought I share my experiences regarding alcoholic drinks. I have never done any drugs or smoked so drinking some alcoholic beverages now and then makes me totally uninteresting as a person. But even with alcohol I have not had any terribly embarrassing experiences, I also tend to remember everything I do while drunk. And I have only been really drunk something like six times in my life.

Anyway, drawing from those few experiences, I know that I do like a drink now and then. I do not especially crave for it, so I am not an alcoholic, but if wine or beer is offered or served, I usually end up having a drink or two. I really cannot drink vodka any more. I used to be able, but I had one very terrible instance in Kiev, which has put me off vodka for the rest of my life. Even the sight of a vodka bottle makes me a little queasy.

But the real question is wine or beer. I usually play this elitist snob while in company of others (for some odd reason), so wine fits with that image somewhat better (and not just any regular wine, but French red, preferably Bordeaux). But I do sometime like to have beer as well. Another drink I like is cider.

I was thinking which of these would be my favourite and I although it depends on the situation, French red wine is best for me. I drink it either in smart company, in a restaurant, on the little wine evenings we have with some special people and while exploring some city during night-time. It is really an all around drink for me. It tastes good and the hangover is more pleasant than with beer or vodka. With beer, it takes me a while to get drunk (and I drink only light beer), but I prefer drinking beer when I need refreshment, when I am tired and in need of a small break or when in a pub. My favourite seems to be A Le Coq.

I also drink cider, but consider that to be not a real alcohol, as I think I have never been really drunk from drinking cider.

Why did I write this thing, again? Oh yes, I have ordered through a friend 8 bottles of nice French wine and 4 bottles of French cider, which should arrive tomorrow.
